Frequently asked questions
How is the exact age calculated?
Whole years are counted first, then whole months from that anniversary, then the remaining days, using real month lengths. Someone born on 31 January is 1 month old on 28 February in a common year rather than on a notional 30-day boundary.
Can I calculate my age on a date other than today?
Yes. Change the "Age on date" field to any date up to the end of 2100. The age, time-lived totals and next-birthday countdown all anchor to that date.
How are the heartbeat and breath figures worked out?
They are rough estimates: 72 heartbeats and 15 breaths per minute multiplied by the minutes you have been alive, and about 2,573 km per day for the distance travelled with the Earth around the Sun. Treat them as a sense of scale, not measurements.
Is my date of birth sent anywhere?
The age calculation runs in your browser. The horoscope section separately asks this site for today's reading for your zodiac sign; that request contains only the sign name, not your date of birth.
Which generation am I?
The calculator uses the Pew Research cut-offs for Boomers through Generation Z (1997 to 2012), then McCrindle's for Generation Alpha (2013 to 2024) and Generation Beta (2025 onward). Later names are extrapolated and marked as such.
