See what a file says about you, then strip it
Drop in a JPEG, PNG, WebP, PDF, DOCX, XLSX, PPTX or MP3 and the tool lists the metadata it carries, grouped by type. For photos that means camera make and model, exposure settings, lens and body serial numbers, the date taken and, where present, GPS coordinates converted to decimal degrees and flagged with a warning, because they can place you at a specific building. Documents show title, author, creator software, company and modification dates; MP3s show ID3 tags including title, artist, comments and any embedded cover art.
Download clean copy writes a version with that data removed, named with a -clean suffix. Images are re-encoded from their pixels, which drops every metadata block at once; JPEG and WebP are saved at high quality, and the colour profile is not carried over. PDFs keep their pages and only the document information fields are cleared. Office files keep all content and formatting while the author, company and timestamp properties are emptied. MP3s have the ID3 tags cut off with the audio frames left untouched.
Parsing is done by reading the file's bytes directly in the browser, with no server involved, which is the only sensible arrangement for a tool whose job is to find the home address hidden in a holiday photo.
Frequently asked questions
Does it remove the GPS location from photos?
Yes. For JPEG, PNG and WebP the clean copy is rebuilt from the pixels alone, so GPS, camera and every other embedded block are gone. Run the clean copy through the tool again if you want to confirm.
Does cleaning reduce image quality?
JPEG and WebP are re-encoded at a high quality setting that is visually indistinguishable at normal sizes, but the file is not byte-identical and the embedded colour profile is dropped. PNG is lossless.
Can it clean HEIC, RAW, video or older .doc files?
No. It handles JPEG, PNG, WebP, PDF, DOCX, XLSX, PPTX and MP3. Convert a HEIC or RAW photo to JPEG first, then clean the JPEG.
Why does it say no metadata was found?
The file is already clean. Screenshots, images saved from the web and photos sent through most messaging apps have usually had their metadata stripped along the way.
Is the file uploaded to be analysed?
No. The bytes are parsed in your browser and the clean copy is written there; nothing is sent anywhere.
Is this an EXIF remover?
Yes. For JPEG, PNG and WebP photos it reads the EXIF block, including camera model, timestamps and GPS coordinates, shows it to you, and writes a copy without it. The same page handles PDF, Office and MP3 metadata.
