Make QR codes that keep working

Turn a URL, plain text, Wi-Fi credentials or contact details into a QR code and download it as a PNG or WebP image, or as an animated GIF or MP4. Because generation happens in your browser, the content of your code is never sent to a server — which also means there is no shortlink middleman that can expire, track scans, or break your code when a service shuts down.

That last point matters more than it seems: many free QR services encode a redirect through their own domain, so the printed code dies when your subscription or their business does. Codes generated here encode your actual content directly and keep working forever.

For screens there are animated versions: a flowing gradient, a colour cycle, a pulse, a shimmer, a scan beam or a spinning logo. The data dots never move and their colours keep strong contrast with the background, and before each download every frame is decoded to confirm it still scans. GIFs are 600 px and loop forever, good for email signatures and websites; MP4s are 1080 px square, ready for Instagram, reels and digital signage.

For print, download at a large size so the code stays sharp when scaled. Error correction is fixed at the highest level (H), which is what lets a code survive a logo in the middle, styling and partial damage at the cost of a slightly denser pattern.

Frequently asked questions

Do QR codes expire?

Not when the content is encoded directly, as it is here. Codes expire only when they point at a shortlink or redirect service that later shuts down or starts charging.

What can I put in a QR code?

A URL, plain text, an email address, a phone number, or Wi-Fi credentials. Keep the content short: the more characters, the denser the pattern and the harder it is to scan at small sizes.

How do I make a Wi-Fi QR code?

Choose WiFi, enter the network name and password and pick the security type (WPA/WPA2, WEP or open). Phones that scan it offer to join the network without typing the password.

Can I add a logo without breaking the code?

Yes. The generator uses the highest error-correction level, which lets a scanner recover the code with up to about 30% of the pattern covered. Keep the logo centred and small, and test with a phone before printing.

Can I make an animated QR code?

Yes. Pick an animation, then download it as a GIF or an MP4 video. It is made entirely in your browser, free and with no sign-up. Every frame is checked with a QR decoder before the download, and you are told if any frame would not scan. Animation only plays on screens, so use the PNG for print.

How big should a printed QR code be?

At least 2 cm across for close-range scanning, and larger for posters: roughly one tenth of the distance it will be scanned from. Leave a clear white margin around it.
