Split the bill and the tip in one step

Type the bill total, tap a tip percentage and set how many people are paying. The calculator shows the tip amount, the total including tip, and the share per person, updating as you change any of the three. Presets cover 10%, 15%, 18%, 20% and 25%, and a custom field takes any other percentage if you would rather tip a round figure or follow a local norm.

The "Round up total" option rounds the final bill up to the next whole dollar and folds the difference into the tip, so the number everyone pays is tidy and the server gets slightly more rather than less. Per-person amounts are the rounded total divided evenly; the stepper goes from one to twenty people, which covers most tables.

Amounts are shown in dollars with two decimal places. The tip is calculated on whatever figure you enter, so if you prefer to tip on the pre-tax subtotal, type that rather than the receipt total. Nothing is stored between visits and nothing is sent anywhere.

Frequently asked questions

How much should I tip?

It depends on the country. In the United States 15% to 20% is standard at restaurants, which is why the presets sit in that range; in much of Europe and Asia a service charge is already on the bill and a tip is a small rounding-up. The custom field takes any percentage.

Should the tip be calculated before or after tax?

Convention in the US is to tip on the pre-tax subtotal, though many people tip on the total. The calculator uses whatever amount you enter, so type the subtotal if you want the stricter version.

How is the per-person amount worked out?

The total including tip is divided equally by the number of people. The calculator does equal splits only; it does not itemise who ordered what.

What does "Round up total" do?

It rounds the bill plus tip up to the next whole dollar and adds the difference to the tip. A 47.30 bill at 18% becomes 56.00 instead of 55.81, and the tip shown rises to match.

Can I change the currency?

Not at the moment; amounts are shown with a dollar sign. The percentages and the split are the same in any currency, so the figures still apply.
