Split a spreadsheet into separate files in one step
Load an .xlsx or .csv file and pick how to split it. "Sheet" saves every sheet as its own workbook with its formatting. "Every N rows" cuts a long table into files of the size you choose, which helps with import limits and email attachments. "Column value" writes one file per distinct value in a column you pick, such as one file per city, salesperson, month or class, the split people usually do by filtering and copying by hand.
The header row is repeated at the top of every file, with its styling, and columns keep their widths. Several files are packed into a single zip so your browser asks once, and each file is named after the value or part it holds. Choose .xlsx to keep number formats, or .csv for plain data.
Splitting runs in your browser with ExcelJS. Nothing is uploaded, so it is safe for marks sheets, invoices and customer data. Very large workbooks are limited only by your device's memory.
Frequently asked questions
How do I split an Excel sheet into multiple files based on a column?
Choose "Column value", pick the sheet and the column, then press Split and download. You get one file per distinct value, each with the header row, zipped together.
Can I split every 1,000 rows?
Yes. Choose "Every N rows" and type the number of data rows each file should hold. The header row is repeated in every file if "First row is a header" is ticked.
Does splitting keep formatting?
Splitting by sheet keeps the sheet as it is. Splitting by rows or by column keeps cell styles, number formats and column widths, and replaces formulas with their values, since the rows move to new positions.
Why is my .xls file not accepted?
The old binary .xls format is not supported. Open it in Excel, Google Sheets or LibreOffice and save it as .xlsx, then split that.
Are my files uploaded?
No. The file is read and split in your browser and the results are downloaded from there.
